The School of Art and Design, College of Architecture and the Arts, UIC, seeks a highly qualified Painter / visual artist engaged in active creative practice to join us as a Visiting Assistant Professor in a dynamic urban-based program at UIC, the public research university
in Chicago.
Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor; one-year appointment, begins August 2008.
Ideal candidates will have an active painting practice and ability to teach painting / drawing and seminar courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and possess a strong knowledge of contemporary art and an interest in cross-disciplinary dialogue. Responsibilities will include two course assignments per semester and participation in graduate-level critiques / advising.
MFA or equivalent required. College level teaching experience desired, and an exceptional portfolio of individual work and active exhibition record. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities include teaching fundamental and advanced undergraduate and graduate-level studio courses as well as full engagement in curriculum development, committee service and student advising.

Ideal candidates will have exceptional professional work/research, substantial ID foundation skills, and strong technical skills (2D digital rendering, freehand sketching, 3D CAD modeling). In addition, candidates would have a sincere interest in interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and research.
Responsibilities will include oversight of three foundation undergraduate sections per semester, (teaching two, supervision of TA-taught AD 120); maintenance + improvements in association with ID/EV Lab Specialist and Shop Supervisor; demoing modelmaking, fit and finish; coordination of and participation in ID Portfolio Review; participation in Undergraduate Advising, IDSA Student Chapter advising; and event coordination: Year End Show. Will also attend School and Departmental faculty meetings.
MID, MA, MFA, MDES or equivalent required; demonstrated excellence and distinction through exhibitions, critical reviews, publications, research and other significant awards. College-level teaching experience preferred.
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications and dependent upon Board of Trustees approval.
