THE JOFFREY AUXILIARY BOARD SEEKS VISUAL ARTISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2ND ANNUAL ‘POINTE OF DEPARTURE’ BENEFIT EXHIBITION
REQUEST
The Joffrey Ballet is seeking visual artists across all mediums to submit work inspired by the art of dance, to be entered in the
benefit fundraiser, Pointe of Departure. Artist applications selected will be asked to create work inspired by dance. Creative
interpretations of this requirement are welcome.
Deadline for proposal is 5pm on Friday, November 25, 2011.
BENEFIT EVENT DESCRIPTION
Pointe of Departure will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, and hosted by the Joffrey Auxiliary Board, to raise funds for
The Joffrey Ballet. This ticketed event will feature numerous artists of note, will be well publicized, and open to the public.
Participating artists will donate time and talent. All work will be sold at the exhibition—for each piece sold, 60% of the
proceeds will go to The Joffrey Ballet and 40% will go to the artist. There will also be a silent auction component to the event.
TIMELINE
The Joffrey Ballet will accept applications until 5pm on Friday, November 25, 2011. Artists will be notified by December 5,
2011, if they have been selected. Selected artists’ work will need to be delivered to The Joffrey Ballet by January 14, 2012.
Installation will occur the days leading up to the event on January 26, 2012.
ELIGIBILITY
The Pointe of Departure show is open to all living professional visual artist applicants, regardless of race, color, religion,
national origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Artists working in
appropriate materials are encouraged to apply.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Visual artists wishing to apply will submit the following to pointeofdeparture@joffrey.org:
- Current Resume
- Description of proposed work for the Pointe of Departure exhibition
- Up to 6 low resolution digital images of recent work
Please include “POINTE OF DEPARTURE APPLICATION” in the e-mail subject line. The Joffrey Ballet will accept applications
until 5pm, on Friday, November 25, 2011.
SELECTION PROCESS
The Joffrey Auxiliary Board, Joffrey Executive Staff, and Pointe of Departure Event Committee Co-Chairs will review artist
applications and select finalists to participate in the show. Applications will be considered based on the style of the artist’s
current work and the style, materials, and suitability of the proposed work.
BACKGROUND
The Joffrey Auxiliary Board is a dynamic group of young professionals age 40 and under that supports the ongoing success of
The Joffrey Ballet through outreach and fundraising initiatives. For over 50 years, The Joffrey Ballet has presented reconstructed
masterpieces as well as contemporary works to audiences on both the local and national levels. With a new permanent
facility in Chicago’s Loop, The Joffrey Ballet continues to thrive under the direction of Artistic Director, Ashley C. Wheater
and Executive Director, Christopher Clinton Conway.
